Post-Disaster Challenges
Most people automatically think of having
nowhere to live as the biggest, most immediate challenge a tornado survivor
will face. What are some of the unexpected
challenges? Think about things in your
daily life on which you depend, or read some survivor stories to better
understand what it means to survive the disaster AFTER the disaster.

Some challenges I have seen after a disaster are in need of the following: water, food, vehicle, protection or shelter, and a form of communication to see what will happen next or for help. I believe the worst part of a disaster is usually the aftermath because in some cases you don't know what to do or how to react to it. Instead you need to use what you have and your instinct to survive.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the after effects of these tornado destructions I think that some unexpected challenges would be an extra shelter to live in and the gathering of water and food. Its hard knowing that you have gone through a disaster of a tornado and you don't have money, important documents were lost. and basically everything was destroyed. Meaning that the unexpected challenge is the Aftermath, knowing that everything is lost.
ReplyDeleteSome people may think that losing their home as being the biggest challenge they have to face after a tornado because that’s their shelter, and without shelter it would be hard for many families to survive. People need shelter because it provides protection from weather. Without shelter you wouldn’t be able to withstand many harsh weather conditions. Some unexpected challenges some people might face is the lost of a family members, there are times when people get caught and can’t save themselves and the harsh weather condition injures the person or results in death. A lot of people have emotional break downs because of all the things they have lost, and the amount of money they have lost because their house and everything inside it is gone.
ReplyDeleteSome unexpected disasters that survivors of a Tornado Disaster would experience would insufficient fund to provide shelter for long in the case that they don't have insurance. As well as lose of family members cause mental instability. They could also go threw a lack of water and food to survive. Surviving a tornado has a huge effect on your life. The aftermath can be the most traumatic part of surviving a tornado.
ReplyDeleteSome challenges that people had been through, and there are some important things that you need to have to survive. I had seen some people losing their homes by tornado. But they dont expect that they wont have water of food or a shelter to leave. If they are lucky they will be rescued and other people will support them with water and food. I think that you can survive without a shelter, but you really can survive with a source of water and food, you really need those things to survive in real life or even if a disaster occur.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the devastating things that have happened because of Tornadoes, some challenges that i think most people would go through would to be able to find another shelter to live in and being able to have fresh clean water and food. Another crucial thing would be losing some of your family members and having to live on your own without shelter, food, and water, and having to go through the extreme weather conditions during summer and winter. So surviving through a disastrous Tornadoes could possibly impact your life forever.
ReplyDeleteAfter a tornado hits, many things can occur. Not having a house isn't the only problem. Some families face death, lack of food and water, and communication. After a tornado destroys your house, not only do u have no place to shelter yourself, but you have lost many resources. One of these major resources is money. You will need large amounts of money to get a new house even after your are being assisted from the state or government. People shouldn't panic when their house gets destroyed. It is a terrible and unfortunate thing but some people don't live to see the destruction a tornado can cause.
ReplyDeleteWhen a tornado strikes and a house is destroyed, the immediate and most alarming thought and problem is not having anywhere to live. However, that is not the only problem. For example, survivors of tornadoes have the problem of finding food and water. This is mainly because, since their house was destroyed, all the money that was kept in there is gone too. In addition, if the person's house is destroyed, than their clothing is most likely gone as well, leaving them with the clothes they have on and nothing else. Moreover, death is another problem that may have to be faced. And some people may end up having to seek counseling or psychiatric help because of what they witnessed during and after the tornado. As you can see, there are many problems that surround a tornado survivor, not just having a house isn't the only problem.
ReplyDeleteAfter a major tornado occurs, you may experience lack of food and water, and you may also not have shelter to protect yourself. Although not being protected is dangerous, but having all of your possessions in your house destroyed including you money. Without money, you won’t be able to get fresh food or water, and you won’t be able to help yourself after the tornado, if you survive. During the tornado you may find kind enough people to let you stay with them throughout the storm, but that is only if their house is still in one piece.
ReplyDeleteAfter a major tornado disaster, people will face a lot of challenges such as, lack of food or water. Because of this, people won't have any of the resources that they need to survive. People would also have to look for shelters especially if it's a family with children. They would have to put them first over them so they survive and get the help that they need
ReplyDeleteAfter a devastating tornado hits people will be in need of water, food, protection, shelter. If your house is destroyed that would mean that you possessions and personal belongings will be gone, like your money, and important papers. Not having money will be a big problem because you wont have money to buy any water, or food to stay healthy, and you will not be able to sustain yourself. The outcome of a tornado can affect your life in any different ways.
ReplyDeleteLack of food and water then shelter are the most prevalent challenges that face a disaster survivor. If a survivor’s home is leveled then they lose all three essentials. A human can last three days without water, weeks without food, and years with only temporary shelter. Because of these deadlines, a disaster survivor should focus on getting water and food first, then shelter.
ReplyDeleteChallenges that a tornado survivor might have is finding transportation into town. They also have debris on the road but starvation is likely if the survivor cant find some way to get to the food.
ReplyDeleteSome daily challenges would be trying to go to work without a vehicle if the tornado had damaged it. But when a tornado destroys somebody house they mostly don't know where to start with the rebuilding process. But I find that it would be a large challenge to find a place to sleep because I'm sure alot of other people needed places to sleep to. Also it would be a struggle to find food because you probably didnt have any money to buy some
ReplyDeleteI think that communication is the biggest immediate issue. This is a big issue because when a tornado hits an area I'm sure that it destroys the phone towers. Now if a tornado occurs there will be people that are injured and need medical attention. If the phone lines are down theres no way to call for help. This also makes it difficult to check on family and friends to make sure their okay.
ReplyDeleteI feel that losing your home is the least of your concerns. You can lose a family member or members. You can be severly wounded physically and/or mentally. But the biggest concern is being trapped under rubble, and not able to contact anybody. Losing your house is bad but there are other things that are worse than that.
ReplyDeleteLosing a home is the least worst thing that i think a tornado survivor can go through. During tornadoes, some people suffer life changing injuries which will impede them from functioning in their every day lives. I have red some survivor stories about people who were rendered paralyzed due to a tornado. I believe that this is way worse than losing your house.
ReplyDeleteSome unexpected things you would need after losing a house in a tornado is hard. You lose things like your house, your documents, your money, and much more things. You will need a car or any kind of vehicle because you need that in your everyday life to go somewhere to live or even live in it. You would also need food and water so you can survive during the reconstruction. Also you would need clothes so you can change during any kind of weather. So the main things you need for everyday life is shelter, food and water, documents, clothes, and a vehicle always come in mind in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I believe that the biggest challenge on sieving a tornado is having less foods and drinks so they can have everyone in the family is in good health, so they would want to rack up as in much food and drinks as possible . What I would do mostly is save all my important document and keep them in a fire proof safe.
